From careful raw material selection to the finished end product, strict controls ensure consistent, high quality. We carefully select our suppliers and work closely with them. Ingredients are sourced from the region as far as possible.
We hold the IFS Food Certificate (= International Featured Standard). September 2020, we are certified for the manufacture of medical products according to DIN EN ISO 13485. State-of-the-art facilities ensure manufacturing under optimal hygiene conditions at the production site.
The quality of the ingredients is one factor. The other factor is the production process. We always try out various recipes when we develop a new product. We put all our drops through a series of tests, applying the strictest criteria in order to guarantee the best quality.
Everything must be perfect – the production systems, the flavour and the appearance – before we proceed to the production run. Naturally, the new premium product still needs the go-ahead – from Perry Soldan in person.
It depends on the stirring action. And the temperature. And the quality of the ingredients. And the recipe.
Get all these details right and the cough drop will be a pleasure to eat. And a flavour to savour. Herbal drops have zero tolerance. One mistake in the production process and it will stick to the wrapper in the bag. Another mistake and the aromas will be lost.
Our cough drop confectioners are initiated into the secrets of their craft and know every step of the production process. But where does it all begin? With the selection of the ingredients.
The quality of the ingredients is key, primarily the quality of the essential oils, fruit juices and herbal extracts. A cough drop confectioner has the nose of a perfumer and can detect the minutest differences and the finest nuances. Only the best quality ingredients make it into the pot.
Admittedly we do have a fair sized pot. We produce enough premium herbal drops every two years to go round the equator if laid out end to end.
Having carefully selected the ingredients, added the sugar or sugar substitutes, the glucose syrup, citric acid or malic acid, the next challenge is making them using a gentle processing technique.
The cough drop mass requires a precise temperature and the right stirring action in the processing, especially because of the sugar. Our confectioners are highly skilled when it comes to stirring in the valuable ingredients – they know the production process, all the idiosyncrasies of the cough drop mass, and know how to make it really smooth.
In an industrial enterprise like ours, the machines are the extended arm of the staff. They set the pace and the machine obeys. And when the herbal drops are finished, our confectioners turn into sommeliers, relishing the rich and full-bodied flavour of their specialities.
Why? Because only premium herbal drops which satisfy their quality criteria make it into the bag. The benefit for our customers is that they can always rely on the quality and flavour of our products.
Our confectioners also invest their passion and flair into the production of our moulded articles. Only high-quality, natural ingredients make their way into the pot. Nothing else.
The basis of every delicious fruit gum is the base mass: for sugar-containing products this is a mixture of sugar, water and glucose syrup and for sugar-free varieties, maltitol syrup. A gelling agent is then added to this. The mixture is boiled gently and thickened to the right consistency.
The next step is crucial for the flavour. The mass is then weighed precisely using state-of-the-art equipment and valuable ingredients are added such as natural flavourings, pure fruit juice and Vitamin C. Now it is down to the stirring.
